Full Mouth Debridement
Full mouth debridement is when deposits of bacteria and minerals are so great that the tissue is swollen and the teeth can not be seen good enough to see exactly all of the existing dental conditions are in a patients mouth. This type of dental cleaning is done when the periodontium is in the process of breakdown. Often times the patient is unaware of such things as attachment of keratinized gum tissue loss and bone loss around the teeth because it “does not hurt”.
The problem with this attitude is that by the time periodontal disease hurts often times the only option left is tooth removal. However, other options are available such as scaling and rootplaning or Periodontal surgery.
